Massage therapists.......?

my fiance works at a new salon/spa as a massage therapist and as a promotion, the owners mailed out a few coupons to people to try out a 30 minute massage for free, hoping to gain clientelle. my question is, since my fiance is a regular employee, no contract was signed, but is paid on commission, is it legal for him to not get paid for these massages? They did pay him for these massages his first two weeks working, but he was not informed they would not pay him for these after that, and was not paid for any of them and that is a lot of his time working for nothing. we can't live off of him working for nothing.Massage therapists.......?
I get so irked at this. It costs alot of money to go to massage school or esthetician school or even cosmetology school and when you get out these ******* spa owners offer commission for you to get paid... soyou could have 3 days of nothing and sit around wasting time .....then they expect you to do it for half price or at their expense...like if the spa owner s doctors wife comes in you are the one to massage her at half price so the owner can get free medical checkups... B.S.!!! Go to the better business bureau and file a complaint and to the labor board and unemployment agency. Your fiance should look on craigslist for a different place to work... try chiropractors who would use his services for the patients and pay him a salary or hourly....go to an established spa or a docotrs office... I have encountered this problem in my line of work numerous times and if i see it happening i walk... good luckMassage therapists.......?
I've come up against similar situations. However, the management has always made it clear upfront. I can't tell you what is legal or not -- but I do agree your boyfriend and you -- and we all -- need money.

Here's what I would do: look for a new job with honest people -- make sure you ask all questions upfront, too!

Good luck!
If he's paid on commission and there's no charge, then he doesn't get paid - that's pretty clear, isn't it?

He probably gets tipped by the customer, though. If not, then hope that the promotion works so that paying business comes in.
