I really hate that men are discriminated against in this profession, and that it is so acceptable to discriminate against men. It's standard policy pretty much anywhere that a client can specify the gender of their therapist, no questions asked. If they express no preference and are assigned a man, they can have it changed. If we went around specifying race, people would call it an outrage. But gender's ok for some reason. And if people were this squeamish about having a female therapist, they would cry sexism so fast it would make your head spin. Men are very capable massage therapists, sometimes even more so than women, because men tend to be larger and stronger and massage is very physical work, especially in the realms of deep tissue and sports massage, which can involve lots of lifting and pulling and more intense pressure.Would you ever go to a male massage therapists?
