I want to use hot oil for Swedish massage. I can heat the oil in water on the stove, but this is inconvenient. My kitchen is not anywhere near my massage area. I have seen commercial warmers for massage oil bottles on-line, but they are expensive ($130 for a three-bottle warmer). I have tried a baby bottle warmer and a cup-warming plate, but they don't get hot enough. This is for personal use for my wife and me, so I don't want to spend a lot of money. Additionally, what is the best way to heat and keep basalt rocks for massage warm? What do you massage therapists out there use or recommend? For massage therapists: What is the best way to heat massage oil and keep it hot.?
For the basalt rocks, you can use an electric crock pot with water in it.
Same for the massage oil.
I usually warm mine in the microwave, about 15 seconds for an 8 oz bottle - make sure you open the lid, otherwise it may explode!
After it is warm, you can keep it warm in a baby bottle warmer. There are also electric potpourri warmers you can use, but these can get pretty hot.
The electric crock pot (use a large one normally used for turkeys etc.) if you have a lot of rocks is used by professional hot stone massage therapists. For massage therapists: What is the best way to heat massage oil and keep it hot.?
I've never used hot oil so I'm not sure. How about a hot plate and a pan of water? Never tried it but it might work.
When I did heated stone (river rocks) massage, I used an electric roasting pan, from Wal-Mart, with water in it. Might work for the basalt rocks.
Good luck
Put it in potpourri burner with a candle under it...Be carefull when it gets low...always test before pouring of course
It seems like you've tried everything to keep your oil hot. If you are planning to use this alot, I think that in the long run it would be better to a commercial warmer from online. To keep the basalt rocks warm, boil a lot hot water. Then put it in a basin and put the rocks in. Make sure it's REALLY hot. When it starts to cool down, remove the hot rocks and get another basin of hot water. Put the rocks in there to keep them hot. You can carry the basin to where ever you want it.
Heating oil is very dangerous.
First, oils can burn badly and oils generally warm when you rub them in your hands.
Try warming your hands with a bowl of hot water. Oils also cool quickly when you spread them out.
There are ';warming'; oils from KY and others that warm on contact.
If you are looking for hot, try using a ';hydroculator';. They are pads filled with clay that are soaked in hot water and produce the beneficial aspects of moist heat, though specialized training is recommended to avoid burns and other dangers.
Use the hydroc for about ten minutes and then use the oil.
A cheap moist heat application is to put two or so cups of uncooked rice in a clean cotton sock and tie it closed. Put it in the microwave for about 2 - 5 minutes. This can be used over and over. If you reheat it right away use less time the second time as it will heat up quicker.
Hire a professional therapist to come over and teach you how to give effective massages safely. It usually costs the same as a massage.
Peace!
