Im going to to the National Holistics Institute for Massage Therapy (NHI) and since its a state accredited school, I wanted to know if California was or will require a state exam for state certification. Ive read a few places that said it was and wasn't going to be. If anyone could show me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
And any Info on National Certification would be great too.
ThanksWhen will california require a certificate for massage therapists?
Certification in CA is currently voluntary I believe (I am not 100% sure so check more)
Before that is was an even bigger mess with each city requiring different amounts of training and the costs were quite high.
National certification is in big trouble in the massage profession. It is done by an organization called the National Certification Board for Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). It really doesn't do anything or mean much of anything in my opinion. Last year a new exam was created called the MBLeX by the Federation of Massage State Boards which will hopefully be accepted in every state soon. It is in many right now but not all.
